First thing this morning we ran into two guys on KTM dirt bikes. They had been at their practice track and were on their way home, along the main blvd! We flagged them down and shared some stories and they recommend a route for us today. What a treat. Again local knowledge.
First we climbed up to 1,500 feet to a lake that looked like it was in an old volcano. It was a nice place, it looked like one of those lakes in Italy we visited when Josh and Tanner and I went to the Dolomites, and then to that Communist hotel with the pretty girl working the desk….. Any how back to today, we stopped at a little out door restaurant and had a Coke on the swing and watched the happenings. The temperature was perfect and it was a nice place, yes there were some tourists, but they were all Spanish and doing what they do, not over run with forigen tourists and all the things they bring. It was nice.
So we took the alternate route down to the coast. It was perfect, the trees arched over the road so we were in the shade for miles, then it opened up and we could see the ocean off in the distance. There was a big river flowing through the valley and it was really nice looking, we got some photo{s but it was a 360* view.
Near the bottom we took another detour and it was a ROCKY rough road that was really cool, plenty rough and just when you thought you were the man a bus full of people would come around the corner going just as fast as you were. The road ended at a little town on a peninsula with a beach full of swimmers, it was cool. We thought we were on a dead end but there was one street that looked more like a drive way that connected to the next road. Little streams ran out of the mountains, over boulders and looked really clear, kids were swimming in them and adults were fishing with cane poles.
The land scape turned green and hilly with the Atlantic off to the right, it looked like the Oregon coast with the bluffs and rocks out in the water, picture perfect and we both agree this was one of the prettiest days we have had.
We stopped at a little beach for a drink and a nap and Chucks back tire went flat. It is worn through but we only had another 100 miles to go to the KTM shop for a new one. Luckily he had a can of fix a flat, and he put it in and stopped the leak. he does not have an axle wrench so if the fix a flat had not held we might still be there. Any how we got the bicycle pump out and got it close in pressure and took off. We had made many new friends at this beach and we both did wheelies for them. I did the best one since Chuck had to baby his tire.
The tire made it to town no problems. It was Sunday afternoon and every one was going to church. There would be people walking down the road in their best clothes and trucks loaded to the brim with church goers. So traffic was kind of bad and we were approaching a big city. We would pass them on the speed bumps, either side, splitting lanes with oncoming traffic or on the other side in the dirt, we made quick work of it. There was this guy in a new VW that was going WAY fast, he would pass us at 100mph, then we would pass him back in the next town, easy. This just drove him crazy and he was all over the road and hitting speed bumps at 50mph. The car must have belonged to some one else because there would not have been much left when he got home. Then, we were cruising along at about 75mph when a VW Bug passed us! They were cool and waved and smiled but we passed them back on the next set of speed bumps.
We made it to Vera Cruz well before dark and found a nice hotel on the water front for 30bucks, another good deal. We went to a restaurant on the water and had a really good fish dinner with drinks for under 20, then we came up to the Internet place to say hey to you.
Tomorrow we go to the KTM shop, tires, chain oils and some other things. Then Tuesday morning we leave on the coast to coast rally route, it should take us 3 days if we are lucky. Of course we will try to get to an Internet site and let you know how we are doing, but it might be hard for the next couple of days. The winner of the rally this year was on a 250 KTM two stroke so it should be real interesting on our big bikes.
Tomorrow is going to be a big money day for us with the tires and stuff, so if any one is in the position to drop us a few bucks, the Pay Pal account is on the photo page, it{s easy and we could really use the help….. You will get an autographed drawing of Chuck and I and also a stone from the worlds deepest cave, as well as knowing you have done a good deed, any amount is helpful, if 10 of you would drop 20 bucks each that would get us out of the shop and on our way. Thanks so much to all those who have helped, we could not have made it this far with out you.
Any one go ride the Nevada 200? How was it? Some one let us know how it was, did Scot and Casey have any new jokes or did they reuse the same material?
Okay, That’s{s all for tonight, wish the KTM shop luck with the two of us showing up tomorrow wanting X amount of stuff and only having Y amount of money….. Heaven help them….
We will write when we can, happy trails
Charlie and Chuck
