To leave Tulum, ahhh manyana

March 25th, 2005 · No Comments

We tried, we really tried.  First we slept late, the wind in the palm trees and the roar of the ocean is just soooo good to sleep to.  Then we had our papaya with yogurt and almonds, with coffee and orange juice for breakfast.  A swim in the ocean and a shower, we were set to leave and it was only about noon.

Chuck had gotten a massage the other day and needed another one to help relax the tension between his shoulders.  We were recommended to a special Mayan Healer, Don Ajulio.  It was only about 20 bucks so I thought I would get one too.

Oh my goodness!  Don Ajulio is a short stocky man, shaped  like a fish.  All neck and shoulders on tiny legs.  He was a powerful man, not in English but in hurting me!  I had pointed at my shoulders, no easy task.  He laid me on the filthy massage table, rubbed mentholated ointment all over me and dug in to his work!  I was  screaming and laughing!  It hurt sooo bad!  He was bearing down and just crushing any tension in my back.  I was just howling!  Of course Chuck thought this was very funny and got out his camera.  He flipped it on video and has a film of me in a small room in my underwear being rubbed by a dark man and just howling with pain and torture.  I have had many massages, and NEVER experienced so much trauma.  I would have given him another 20 bucks to stop, but he did not hear my pleas. besides I think Chuck was prompting him with his command of the Spanish language.  ¨SqueelO like a PorkO!´´

I feel better, now, he did stop, finally, my back, my neck, my legs, my arms all got the treatment, I think it would be similar to Rolfing, another treatment I have avoided because it was so rough.  Of course Chuck loved it and wants more.  He can have it…

So when we got back to our cabana, I fell on the bed and passed out, so much for leaving today.

We went to dinner and ran into a guy who had a big rough looking BMW, he was from Canada and had ridden all over, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama.  He sleeps in gas station parking lots and was on a much rougher trip than we are.  Needless to say we didn´t tell him about our cabana and massages……  ‘Oh yea, 4 days of dirt around Copper Canyon bla bla bla, yes with hotels and massages……’ NOT.

He did tell us there was a KTM shop just down the road and we are hoping they will have a tire for Chucks bike, other wise, we have to ride into Mexico City, and we don´t want to do that.  22 million people live there, so we are hoping.

It was a slow day, relaxing around the beach, we WILL leave tomorrow and hopefully have more stories to tell in the next couple of days.  We don´t want you to think it is all fun and games, the ride home looks overwhelming, look at your map, it is a LONG way home.  So check here tomorrow night, we should have more tales to tell as we will be ‘on the road’, again.
