Hey Yall!
We are still kicking down here! We did some heavy pavement work for the last two days, trying to get south towards our goal of Cueve Cheve in the deep south. The terrain has been kind of dull, new but dull. Mostly high plains 7,000 feet or more, cactus and mud huts every where. 80 mph for hours on end, the 640 is running really good, but the 950 just lopes along waiting for me. I want a 950! The big bike did all the dirt as well as my 640 but just leaps away on the open stuff, and there is plenty of places to ride here in Mexico.
Any how our goal today was San Miguel de Allende. This is the town were Neal Cassidy wanderd off and froze to death. Neal was one of Jack Kerouic running buddies and Neal also drove the bus for the Merry Pranksters on the Ken Kessy oddisy. I didn’t expect much, just another dirty town, but I wanted to visit just to say I had.
What a great suprize! This is the coolest town I have ever been to! Hands down, no questions asked, top shelf cool! It looks like an old Italian town, Giant chuch in the centro and surrounded by old old buildings with huge doors and stone arches and lots of faux painting and cool stuff, plus it’s cheap!!!!
We are staying in one of the nicest hotel in town, 3 doors down from the centro square, stone steps lead to our room. They let us jump the bikes up over the curb and park them in the lobby on the old stone floors. Hot water, toilet seats, it’s the bomb! $45 a night, including breakfast for both of us! We may never leave. I will come back here, I am in heaven. Cool and cheap. It was too late to get any photos tonight but I’ll get some tomorrow.
Speaking of photos, Chuck is across the table working on another computer trying to down load photos off his new camera. Problem is, he has been sampling the tequila around town and has rough computer skills at best, so combined, he is driving the cafe owner crazy with his slurred pig spanish.
Speaking of pig spanish, Chuck was at it again this morning. We had ridden a hundred miles before breakfast, it was very windy, the bikes lean into the wind for miles and miles. We stopped at a little truck stop and went in, Chuck took off his helmet and told the waitress:
“ElblowmeO”! What he was refering to was the wind, but if you walk into a restraunt where I live and tell the waitress to “ElblowmeO” You are going to get slapped!
Then later while ordering he told the waitress: “Porko” then made grunting noises like a pig. He makes me look good and smooth, so I’ll keep him around.
Okay, it’s getting late and they are closing the doors, Chuck has given up on down loading the photos and is reading Cycle News. We saw where Doug Henry won the Florida GNCC, wow that’s a suprize! Then In Georgia Mike Lafferty got a second place behind Juha, good on Mike! We might be a long way from there but we are able to keep an eye on things and it looks like it’s going to be an exciting season. Oh, and Mike won the Alligator Enduro. To me Enduro is the top game, GNCC is second. Go Mike. Go Matt Stavish too, Matt is leading the National Enduro series right now, I’ll bet he is hoping for rain in Georgia to make it a tough survival run. There are so many guy’s l can root for, we are in a very good time for racing. Juha, Steve Hatch, Randy Hawkins, Matt Stavish, Shane Watts, I could go on but I gotta go.
We are going out on the town now, so many cool little bars to check out. Tomorrow we hit the road and head towards Mexico City, we plan on circling around it so we don’t have to go to the town it’s self. And with luck we can be in the cave area by the weekend, so untill next time, adios amigos.
