Mexico 3′15′05 - Fritz and the Spanish Liberachi

March 17th, 2005 · No Comments

Hola all!

I was in quite a hurry with yesterdays posting, I was in very odd circumstances, let me explain. We were in Guachochi looking for the bank and some gas when this guy pulled us over on his BMW Funduro motorcycle. He personally guided us to the Banco and the gas station and the internet shop, but it was closed so he volunteered his neighbors computer for us to use. Good enough, our new freind, Fritz, was originally from Germany and was quite a charecter, very funny and informative. We went to his house and waited for his neighbor to get off work, just moments before the neighbor walked in Fritz informed us the neighbor was a really nice guy, but, he was a queer as they get! I would probabally owe him something for using his computer. We just laughed and before we could make another move, a spanish Liberachi walked in the door.

Like a good little boy I followed him home and he set me up at the computer, he was very nice and we had a plesant time, but if he touched me once, he touched me one hundred times! He was all over me! I had on my coat, because it was quite cold outside, we were above 7,500 feet. He rubbed my shoulder pads while I tried to write to you. Oh the things I have to do just for you! No there was no trouble and we were good freinds before it was all over, it was just a little difficult concentrating with him. In the back of my mind, I knew Chuck was next door with Fritz doing shots of tequila and laughing thier asses off at my peculiar perdicament.

Any how a thousand things have happened, all of them good. We have not seen any trouble, every one is super nice and every one smiles and waves as we go by. I understand 60 minutes had a special on about the trouble here in Mexico, and I´m sure we could find some trouble, be we stay out of the big towns and away from the border towns and we feel completely safe. If we were not having a good time we would come home.

So we continue, we have made the turn south away from Copper Canyon and are heading further south towards Cueve Cheve, it should take us 3 days of hard riding, mostly on pavement. Don´t worry we have ridden plenty of dirt, that tour around Copper Canyon may have ruined us both. I´ll tell you more about it when I have time, but it was pretty hard core, and we both do pretty well on a bike, 8 hour days at 20mph average, day after day.

We got in 350 miles today, some very nice gravel and some good pavement then like 100 miles of straight line with a feirce cross wind all the way, the bikes heeled over and wore us out. One thing they do here is with their cattle guards, instead of having the slats cross the road, they go with the road with a gap between each one just big enough to swollow a wheel, very taxing and scary.

We plan on getting up early tomorrow and hitting the pavement again, we plan on going around Mexico City on the east side then on to Oxaoxa. Then we plan on return trip up the west coast, and that should be just spectacular. We have many excelent photo´s and will post some as soon as we get a good internet server, this machine is slower than I can type so if that gives you any idea.

Maybe some one can pull up a good map and put a link on the web site so everyone can follow along, we are north of Zacateca tonight and hopefully find a good internet connection there tomorrow. Please don{t worry about us, we are having a very good time and have seen no signs of trouble, we have made many freinds and have a thousand stories. Tonights motel was 22 dollars but does not include a toilet seat. What happens to all the toilet seats here? I expect to come across a huge pile of toilet seats any time, I´m going to grab one if I see one, I like the damn things!

Chuck is out of control, we were buying gas from this lady the other day, she had to siphon it out of a barrel, into a bucket then in to the bikes. Through rough translation she told us she had just had a baby Monday, it was 4 days old. Very nice, she went in to get it so we could see it, then Chuck started up his pig spanish and I think he meant to say Neuvo Bambino ( New Baby) but what came out of his mouth was Huevo Bambino (Eggs with Baby) I was laughing my ass off, and the poor girl was just shocked. It was the worst thing I have ever heard said to a new mother. Needles to say the baby went back in the house and our gas price went up. Eggs with Baby, you just never know what we are going to do next.

We´ll catch up agian as soon as we can, and send some photos, keep those cards and letters coming. I also wanted to say hey to Roscoe, I guess he had to go to the hospital for a few days and I want to wish him the very best, I am proud to have him as a freind.

Adios amigos
Charlie and Chucko
