Today January 16th is Jeff Fredettes 68th birth day. He is shown here looking for his glasses. It was proposed by a reader we cut off his leg and count the rings to get an accurate estimate of Jeff’s true age.

You can check out his web site for all sorts of cool stuff. You can find his e-mail address on his site too, so drop him a note, use large type.

We also got a note from Kevin Brown down Athens way. He’s promoting a new enduro series,

ACES (Appalachian Championship Enduro Series). www.aces-races.com Looks like a southern Ohio series. Some time keeping, some Known Control, it kicks off Feb 24th so better get ready.

I must say at 68 Jeff has aged well. The first photo reminded me of Pierce Brosnan but the other photo reminds me of the log sections he has arrowed me through.
Word to the wise, if Mr Fredette is involved in laying out your enduro, bring extra water because when he starts you crying out in the woods alone with only your bike and logs to keep you company. Well, you will dehydrate quick. Peace Trails and a happy 68th Jeff! JW

I am not one to spread rumors but I have heard Jeff share stories around the campfire; one was related to his time spent on board the USS Indianapolis. He said that he ran messages on an old Harley with a side car, he said the passenger was none other the Captain Quint made famous by Robert Shaw in the movie Jaws. He said that when the ship sank Quint used the sidecar as a boat and Jeff quickly removed the wheels of the bike lashed them together as a raft. Jeff was humble when stated he would not have known how to do this if not for WW1 when he took a board track racer and packed it in a steamer trunk and headed to England to join up with the newly formed RAF. He stated that his was the first recorded dogfight between a motorcycle and an Aeroplane. He also told me he fought the Red Baron himself he said he won because he would ride in a serpentine style which confused the Red Baron and also was when he invented enduro racing! He said he would have been scared if he had the advantage from his experience in the War between the States.
With all this information which he insisted is fact I have calculated his age to be no younger than somewhere around 150 years plus. Strong work I think if more people outside the motorcycle community heard stories like this they would not be closing down federal land to off road bikes but would embrace our group and concentrate on the real environmental problems.

I saw Jeff at the KLX450 intro in AZ and he was having a rough time from some recent crash or fall down the stairs or something. As I took a bite of my sandwich I muttered that it was never too soon to start thinking about retirement and that there are some great elder-care facilities these days. He smiled. I woke up somewhere in the desert later on not to far from my camper. Yeah – Jeff’s still got it alright. He’s the man.
